At least 60 students have tragically lost their lives following an attack on a primary school for girls, as confirmed by Iranian state media. Reports from local news sources detailed that a girl’s school in Minab County was struck by an attack believed to be Israeli. The Governor of Minab, in southern Iran, shared a report through the semi-official Tasnim News Agency, stating that 51 students were killed and 60 others were wounded in the morning assault.
Later in the day, Hossein Kermanpour, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, updated the casualty figures, indicating that the death toll had risen to 60 children due to Israeli airstrikes earlier in the day. Additionally, he mentioned that 80 children were injured, and there were potentially more children trapped under the debris.
These tragic events unfolded amidst a series of attacks affecting various parts of Iran, with both U.S. and Israeli military aircraft and missiles targeting locations across the country. Mojtaba Khaledi, the spokesperson for Iran’s Red Crescent services, highlighted that 20 out of Iran’s 31 provinces had been impacted by the strikes.
Khaledi emphasized the readiness of all emergency response teams from the Red Crescent, including relief bases, ambulance units, debris removal teams, search and rescue squads, and medical units. He urged the public to maintain a safe distance from the affected areas and avoid congregating near the impact sites to facilitate swift and effective emergency operations.
The widespread nature of the strikes across more than 20 provinces, as noted by Khaledi, indicates a broader impact than initially reported, underscoring the severity and scale of the unfolding crisis.
