Israeli Airstrikes Target Hezbollah in Lebanon

Date:

Israel conducted airstrikes in Lebanon following Hezbollah’s involvement in the conflict in the Middle East. Reports indicate that a senior member of Hezbollah was killed in the Israeli strikes. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted Hezbollah locations after the militant group launched missiles towards northern Israel. Simultaneously, Iran continued its attacks on Israel and Arab states in retaliation for the killing of Ayatollah Khamenei.

The airstrikes resulted in at least nine fatalities in Beit Shemesh, Israel, due to an Iranian missile strike, while Lebanon reported 31 deaths in IDF retaliatory strikes, mainly in the southern region, and 149 people were injured. Subsequently, numerous individuals fled their homes in the south, and there were reports of the death of Mohammad Raad, the head of Hezbollah’s parliamentary faction, during the strikes.

The IDF claimed to have targeted senior Hezbollah operatives in Beirut and southern Lebanon, without disclosing specific names. Iranian authorities stated that over 200 individuals have died since the commencement of the strikes, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials.

Additionally, a drone strike hit RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus, as confirmed by the Ministry of Defence, with no casualties reported. The UK government is preparing for the evacuation of British nationals in the Middle East, where over 200,000 individuals, including military personnel, are deemed at risk in the Gulf region. British citizens in various countries have been advised to register with the Foreign Office online.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that US warplanes would be permitted to use RAF bases for targeting Iranian missile sites. Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper expressed the UK’s decision not to support the initial US attack on Iran, citing the importance of defensive actions to protect British citizens in the region.
