“James Bond Producer Stalker Given Indefinite Hospital Order”

Date:

A man who stalked Barbara Broccoli, the producer of James Bond movies, for ten years has been given an indefinite hospital order after she claimed he pressured her into selling her family residence.

Daniel Wilson, 37, unlawfully entered Ms. Broccoli’s home in 2016, causing her such distress that she decided to sell the property where she had resided for two decades, as revealed in Southwark Crown Court.

The court was informed that Wilson subsequently violated a restraining order by leaving menacing Valentine’s Day voicemails, including threats like “I’ve got murder on my mind,” and by sharing Ms. Broccoli’s personal information along with abusive messages on the internet.

In that same month, he further breached the order by posting an image of a “scantily clad woman” with offensive remarks and Ms. Broccoli’s contact information, as stated by Judge Christopher Hehir during Wilson’s sentencing on Monday.

Wilson has confessed to stalking causing serious distress between April 1, 2022, and February 14, 2025, along with two counts of defying the ban on contacting Ms. Broccoli initially imposed in 2017.

Residing in Lambeth, south London, Wilson has also pleaded guilty at Inner London Crown Court to affray and criminal damage for vandalizing car and hospital windows with a hammer in December 2023.

He was handed an indefinite Section 37 hospital order with a Section 41 restriction to be served concurrently for each offense. Additionally, the judge issued a confiscation order for the hammer used in 2023.

Wilson’s fixation on Ms. Broccoli began after their friendship ended in 2009, stemming from their sons attending the same sixth form college. He developed an intense obsession with her, believing she owed him money for a bronze sculpture of her father, Albert “Cubby” Broccoli, the original producer of James Bond films.

This fixation led Wilson to break into her London residence in 2016, causing significant damage, with Ms. Broccoli’s friends barricading themselves while Wilson barricaded inside until the police arrived.

Expressing constant fear for her safety, Ms. Broccoli recounted her distress to the court. Wilson, still fixated on her, expressed delusions during the hearing, leading to the judge cutting off the video link from Wandsworth Prison.

Regarding the stalking case, the prosecutor described Wilson’s relentless campaign of sending numerous messages via WhatsApp, text, email, and voicemail, including threats and inappropriate content.

On December 6, 2023, Wilson caused substantial damage by smashing car and hospital windows, resulting in £8,837 in damages.

Expert witnesses debated Wilson’s psychiatric condition, with differing opinions on whether he suffers from schizoaffective disorder or bipolar affective disorder. Nevertheless, they agreed on the treatment required.

Wilson’s substance abuse history, particularly crystal meth and cannabis, aggravated his condition, leading to his aggressive actions and threats towards others.

Dr. Eleanor Hind highlighted Wilson’s risks to the public, including his stalking behavior causing psychological distress and potential physical violence, as evidenced by his past violent outbursts.

Ms. Broccoli took over the James Bond franchise in 1995, continuing the legacy with her half-brother. They produced several Bond films and received accolades for their outstanding contributions to British cinema.

Wilson faced multiple charges related to breaching restraining orders and engaging in criminal activities, eventually pleading guilty to several charges at subsequent court hearings.
