“King Rides Tank, Honors Soldiers in Dorset Visit”

Date:

The monarch enjoyed a ride in a military tank during a visit to Dorset, where he met with British soldiers reuniting with their families. The King swapped his formal attire for a helmet and goggles as he was driven around a dirt track in a Challenger 2 tank at the Tank Museum in Bovington.

Following a dispute between Buckingham Palace and the Duke of Sussex over accommodation, the King arrived at the museum in a vintage Rolls-Royce Armoured Car. Soldiers from the Royal Tank Regiment collaborated with museum staff to prepare the vehicle that once carried Queen Elizabeth II.

During the visit, the King interacted with former Colonels-Commandant of the RTR and explored the museum’s exhibitions showcasing armored vehicles, personal artifacts, and war memorabilia. He jokingly described the vintage Rolls Royce as “slow” to the amusement of his hosts.

The King also engaged with soldiers and their families, presenting medals and sharing words of appreciation for their service and sacrifices. He later visited the Vehicle Conservation Centre to view displays of drones and the Regiment’s new Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank.
