Jet2 has issued a response following the tragic death of a passenger on a flight bound for Manchester Airport. The individual, identified as Callum Kerr, aged 35 from Warrington, was on board flight LS966 from Larnaca, Cyprus, accompanied by his girlfriend on Sunday evening. According to witnesses, Kerr exhibited disruptive behavior during the flight, allegedly due to prior alcohol consumption.
Upon receiving reports of a male passenger exhibiting aggressive behavior towards fellow passengers and crew, Greater Manchester Police responded to the situation at Manchester Airport early Monday morning. Passengers onboard had reportedly restrained Kerr before police intervention. Despite officers detaining him with handcuffs, Kerr was found unresponsive. Attempts to resuscitate him were made before he was transported to the hospital, where he passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
A spokesperson from Jet2 expressed condolences to the deceased customer’s family and friends, acknowledging the unfortunate incident. They stated that further comments would not be provided as investigations are ongoing.
Following the incident, Greater Manchester Police initiated a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for an independent review of the officers’ actions leading up to Kerr’s death. Concurrently, the force’s Major Incident Team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the event.
Notably, Kerr was not under arrest, and no arrests were made in connection with the incident. The police confirmed receiving two reports of assault, one against a passenger and another involving a cabin crew member.
In a statement relayed through the police, Kerr’s family described him as a devoted family man, father to three young children, a sports enthusiast, and a person with a kind heart.
