In 2013, a magnificent Malibu beach residence was acquired by Kanye West, who had unique renovation plans that surprised many. Spanning 4,000 square feet, the property features four bedrooms and five bathrooms and sits on the beachfront, offering serene ocean views and a prestigious neighborhood.
West purchased the house in 2021 for a staggering $57 million and envisioned transforming it into a vintage bomb shelter from the 1910s, prompting a lawsuit from his project manager. The former manager revealed West’s unconventional desires, including demolishing marble bathrooms, removing windows, plumbing, and electricity, and even considering replacing stairs with slides – a request that was denied.
The subsequent buyer snapped up the property for $21 million after it was listed for $54 million, noting the house’s construction of concrete and steel. In a TikTok video showcasing the vacant house, the new owner highlighted the property’s durability in adverse conditions, emphasizing West’s preference for an open flame for warmth and protection.
Additionally, it was revealed that West aimed to create a self-sufficient space with minimal modern conveniences to avoid government surveillance. His elaborate plans also included a private Wi-Fi network, alternative energy sources, and an interior devoid of doors, windows, and typical fixtures, favoring vast concrete expanses.
During the house tour, guests were led to an underground tunnel with markings in West’s handwriting on the concrete walls, showcasing various doodles and messages. Unfortunately, the property’s drastic transformation left neighboring luxury homeowners with an unsightly view, including a Midwest shopping center developer and an Israeli diamond merchant.
With West’s costly renovation efforts resulting in a $29 million loss, the new owner plans to reinvest in restoring the property to its former glory as a prime Malibu beach residence, aiming to resell it at the original $57 million price tag.
