Highlighting the government’s focus on ensuring stability during the chaotic situation in the region, Starmer outlined key developments from the Prime Minister’s address. He disclosed plans to dispatch four extra Typhoon jets to Qatar for strengthening defensive operations and deploying Wildcat helicopters with anti-drone capabilities to Cyprus, where a UK military base recently faced a drone attack.
Moreover, HMS Dragon, a type 45 warship, is set to be sent to the Mediterranean, albeit its arrival is expected next week. Starmer reaffirmed the commitment to safeguarding British nationals and allies in the region. He mentioned the departure of a Government-chartered flight from Oman to the UK, with additional repatriation flights planned to ensure the safety of British citizens in the coming days.
The Prime Minister disclosed that over 4,000 individuals have returned via commercial flights from the United Arab Emirates, with more flights scheduled for the day. British Airways is operating daily flights from Oman, with efforts underway to expedite and expand the airlift capacity.
