A manipulative killer who subjected a vulnerable father and former DJ to a prolonged period of torment and mistreatment has been sentenced to life in prison for murder. Ashley Crowder, 37, inflicted abuse on Graham Cox, 37, culminating in his fatal beating and strangulation in Bolton in March 2024.
Crowder, found guilty of murder, assault, and theft in relation to Mr. Cox, was given a minimum 25-year prison term at Bolton Crown Court. Mr. Cox was discovered dead with extensive injuries in Crowder’s flat in Farnworth.
The court revealed that Mr. Cox, who suffered from various health issues, was left defenseless and homeless, falling victim to Crowder’s coercive control. Crowder exploited Mr. Cox’s vulnerabilities, stealing his money and benefits, and subjecting him to violent assaults.
Despite the evidence against him, Crowder showed no remorse and disrespected the court proceedings, refusing to engage with Mr. Cox’s family or authorities. Judge Nicholas Clarke condemned Crowder’s lack of compassion and disregard for human life.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrew Naismith highlighted the tragic exploitation of Mr. Cox, emphasizing the need to seek justice for vulnerable individuals. The sentencing aims to provide solace to Mr. Cox’s family and send a strong message against such heinous crimes in the community.
