“Magaluf Assault Case: Men Plead Guilty, Face Reduced Sentences”

Date:

Eight men accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old British tourist at a hotel in Magaluf faced individual jail sentences ranging from 18 to 20 years. However, before the trial began, they opted to plead guilty in exchange for reduced prison terms totaling around 73 years. The suspects, seven of whom are French nationals and one from Switzerland, were detained following a lengthy investigation. Two suspects were extradited via a European Arrest Warrant, while six were apprehended in Majorca.

The public prosecutors detailed the appalling treatment the victim endured at the BH Mallorca Resort in August 2023. The men reportedly met the teenager in Magaluf and one of them even solicited strangers in the hotel corridor for “free sex” with her after the assault. Five of the perpetrators received sentences of nine or 11 years for sexual assault, with three receiving longer prison terms for repeated offenses.

In addition to their jail time, the men were also sentenced to two years and three months for filming the assaults. They may face deportation after serving part of their sentences, pending a decision by the authorities. The three men who filmed the attacks but did not physically assault the victim were handed prison terms of two years and three months, with one receiving an additional four years for sexual assault.

The indictment revealed that the accused men engaged in various sexual acts on the semi-conscious victim without her consent. The charges included multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and privacy violations related to sharing the videos. The men, aged between 18 and 26 at the time of the arrests, were described as primary perpetrators or accomplices in the crimes.

Following the incident, the BH Mallorca Resort expressed regret and condemned the assault, offering full cooperation with the investigation. The Civil Guard closed the case after all eight suspects were arrested, highlighting the complexity of the investigation and the collaboration with international authorities to apprehend the perpetrators.

Overall, the guilty pleas and sentencing of the accused men mark a significant development in the case, shedding light on the disturbing events that unfolded at the hotel in Magaluf.
