A man has been taken into custody following the discovery of a deceased man in his 60s near a house engulfed in flames. Emergency responders rushed to Wargon Crescent in Glenmore Park just before 1 am on Thursday after receiving reports of a fire. They found the body of the older man outside the partially burning residence with severe burns.
During a press briefing, law enforcement officials disclosed that the arrested 36-year-old individual had a criminal record and was familiar to the police. They also revealed that the detained man and the deceased were related. Superintendent Trent King, Nepean Police Area Commander, mentioned that a forensic examination would be conducted on the deceased to determine the cause of death.
The police confirmed that there was no history of domestic violence between the two men. Further elaborating on the incident, Superintendent King stated, “There seems to have been a confrontation between the two individuals following a break-in at the premises, where the front door was forcibly opened.” He added, “An accelerant appears to have been utilized… however, there is currently no additional information regarding the events inside the property.”
According to a statement from NSW police, authorities were alerted to the incident in Glenmore Park early on Thursday morning. A crime scene was established, and detectives initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the case. Subsequently, the 36-year-old suspect was apprehended inside a vehicle on Parkes Avenue, Werrington, around 6:45 am on the same day. The man received medical treatment for minor injuries from NSW Ambulance paramedics before being transported to Nepean Hospital under police supervision.
