Man Discovers Suspected Parasitic Worm in Supermarket Chicken

Date:

A man dining at home was shocked when he found what he believed to be a parasitic worm in a chicken he purchased from a local supermarket. Donald Cameron, aged 54, discovered the disturbing object while eating a pre-cooked chicken he bought from a Tesco store in Inverness during a power outage last October.

Upon reaching the end of the meal with a friend, Donald uncovered what appeared to be a parasitic worm in a piece of breast meat, noting signs of bruising where it had burrowed through the flesh. Being familiar with such issues from his upbringing on a farm, he raised his concerns with Tesco’s head office, but was dissatisfied with their response. Subsequently, he escalated the matter to the Highland Council’s environmental health team.

Expressing his disgust, Donald described the incident as “absolutely rank,” emphasizing the visible damage caused by the worm. Despite initially being promised follow-up action and a refund from Tesco, he faced a lack of communication and discovered the contaminated chicken left neglected in a store fridge weeks later.

Parasitic worms, known for causing severe health issues in humans, were the cause of concern for Donald. He reported the incident to the Highland Council on January 26, prompting an ongoing investigation. Tesco, while offering apologies and compensation in the form of vouchers which Donald declined, disputed the claim of a parasitic worm, suggesting it was a natural blood vessel.

Frustrated by the lack of resolution, Donald remains steadfast in pursuing the issue, highlighting his shaken trust in the supermarket’s food products. Despite Tesco’s attempts to rectify the situation, he remains dissatisfied, emphasizing the seriousness of the matter over monetary compensation. In response, Tesco expressed regret over the incident and assured efforts to uphold quality standards.

Highland Council confirmed the investigation into the matter, ensuring that appropriate actions are being taken. Donald’s unwavering pursuit of justice reflects his deep concern for food safety and consumer trust, underscoring the need for prompt and effective responses to such incidents.
