A man named Eric Powers, residing in Birkenhead, Merseyside, shared how medical cannabis has been a life-changing treatment for his complex health issues. Eric, a former IT specialist from Florida, developed a severe neurological disorder after an accident at the age of 13 in 1989, which resulted in him slipping into a coma for five days.
Since then, Eric has experienced a range of debilitating symptoms, including temporary blindness, insomnia, swallowing difficulties, convulsions, and recurring comas. He was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in his early 40s, which was attributed to lesions found on his brain and spinal cord. Despite trying various medications with significant side effects, it wasn’t until he tried cannabis at the age of 27 that he found relief.
Describing the immediate positive impact of cannabis on his health, Eric emphasized how it helped alleviate his nausea, improve his appetite, and manage his pain. Moving to the UK in 2025, Eric continued to rely on medical cannabis for his well-being.
Facing stigma for his cannabis use, even from medical professionals, Eric highlighted the challenges he encountered, including being denied pain relief due to the presence of cannabis in his system during a hospitalization. Despite the hurdles, Eric found solace in the therapeutic benefits of cannabis, which he credits with keeping him out of the hospital and improving his quality of life.
