A 21-year-old man, Adam Bachir-Belmehdi, was found guilty of criminal damage for eating his takeaway meal on the hood of a police car parked outside London’s Bishopsgate Police Station on May 3. CCTV footage captured Bachir-Belmehdi laying on the bonnet and windscreen of the police car while his friend took photos. He then placed his meal on the car’s hood, kicked the vehicle’s side and wing mirror twice, and eventually ripped off the wing mirror. The City of London Police responded promptly after viewing the CCTV footage, with officers arriving at the scene to address the damage caused by Bachir-Belmehdi. The incident led to the police vehicle being out of service for five days. Bachir-Belmehdi was ordered to pay £200 in compensation, a £480 fine, £85 CPS costs, and a £192 surcharge at Westminster Magistrates Court. Police Constable Oliver Gage criticized Bachir-Belmehdi’s actions as unnecessary and childish, emphasizing that such behavior is unacceptable in the City of London. The City of London Police, responsible for policing the Square Mile business district, highlighted the importance of their advanced CCTV network in tracking suspects and maintaining public safety.
