A tragic incident occurred in South Shields as a man in his 20s lost his life when a van plunged off a cliff in the Marsden area. Northumbria Police received a call at approximately 6 am on Wednesday regarding a potential welfare issue near the A183 Coast Road. The report indicated that a van had veered off the road and fallen over the cliffs onto the beach below, with one individual presumed to be inside.
After an extensive search involving various agencies, emergency services discovered the body of the deceased man in his 20s. Authorities have notified his next of kin. The involved vehicle is currently being retrieved from the site, and officials have stated that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the man’s death. A report is being prepared for the coroner.
Responding to the incident, the North East Ambulance Service dispatched a clinical team leader and ambulance crew. Additionally, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, HM Coastguard, and Tynemouth RNLI were present, forming a joint response effort described by the RNLI as a “multi-agency call.”
As the investigation continued, a lone Northumbria Police vehicle remained on the scene until late afternoon, as reported by Chronicle Live.
