A mother on a TUI flight to Cuba went on a 90-minute drunken rampage, assaulting cabin crew and passengers by punching, kicking, and biting them. Zoe Alexander’s disruptive behavior led to her being restrained until the flight landed due to her excessive consumption of brandy.
During the nine-hour flight, Alexander’s loud and slurred speech, coupled with her inappropriate interactions with fellow passengers and crew, escalated the situation. Despite repeated warnings, she continued to be disruptive, culminating in verbal abuse towards other passengers and crew members.
The disruptive behavior extended to physically assaulting crew members, including punching and biting, as well as attempting to light a cigarette on the plane. Efforts to calm her down were futile, leading to the use of restraining equipment to ensure the safety of everyone on board.
In court, it was revealed that Alexander’s actions caused significant distress and fear among the crew and passengers. Despite her lack of prior convictions, her behavior on the flight resulted in guilty pleas to charges of being drunk on an aircraft and assault. Her defense cited mental health issues and acknowledged the impact of her actions on the victims.
The judge condemned Alexander’s behavior as unacceptable and aggressive, noting the danger she posed to the passengers in the confined space of the plane. While considering a custodial sentence as a deterrent, the judge opted for a suspended five-month sentence, along with restrictions on her travel and requirements for rehabilitation and alcohol monitoring.
As Alexander left court with her father, she received a suspended sentence but was ordered to compensate her victims and undergo rehabilitation, emphasizing the seriousness of her actions during the flight.
