A man has disappeared after encountering trouble in the water at a beach in Cornwall. HM Coastguard received a distress call regarding the man at Polzeath on Sunday, April 19. Following the alert, the Polzeath and Boscastle Coastguard Rescue Teams, an HM Coastguard Helicopter, and RNLI lifeboats from Padstow and Rock were swiftly dispatched to Greenaway beach at 4:35 pm.
According to Devon and Cornwall Police, the man is still missing, and search efforts in the vicinity are ongoing. Another individual was also reported to have entered the water but managed to return safely to the shore, as per Cornwall Live.
An HM Coastguard spokesperson stated, “A concern report was raised around 4:35 pm on April 19 about a man in distress near Greenaway beach, Polzeath. HM Coastguard deployed Polzeath and Boscastle Coastguard Rescue Teams, an HM Coastguard Helicopter, and RNLI lifeboats from Padstow and Rock.”
“Additionally, a second man who entered the water was able to self-recover to the shore safely. Devon and Cornwall Police and the South Western Ambulance Service also responded.”
A representative from Devon and Cornwall Police commented, “We were alerted by the Coastguard on the afternoon of Sunday, April 19, following a distress call about a man struggling in the water near Greenaway Beach, Polzeath. The man is still unaccounted for, and search operations are ongoing in the area.”
“The second individual who entered the water managed to return safely to the shore.”
