“Man on Trial for Allegedly Killing 5-Month-Old Stepson”

Date:

A man is currently on trial for allegedly causing the death of his five-month-old stepson in a fit of anger, as per the testimony presented to the jury at Swansea Crown Court.

Thomas Morgan, aged 29, stands accused of the murder of Jensen-Lee Dougal, whom he denies killing at their residence in Swansea. The court heard that Morgan purportedly inflicted fatal harm on the baby by shaking him violently while in a state of rage following a dispute with his former girlfriend earlier that day. The incident reportedly resulted in severe brain damage, multiple fractures, and significant retinal bleeding in Jensen-Lee’s eyes.

Morgan, residing in Gorseinon, Swansea, faces charges of murder and three counts of causing grievous bodily harm to the infant with intent. Prosecutors claimed that Morgan breached the trust placed in him by harming Jensen-Lee, with the most severe injury allegedly occurring on March 30, 2024, the day before the baby passed away.

During the trial’s commencement, Caroline Rees KC, the prosecutor, highlighted that Morgan engaged in a heated argument with his ex-partner, Georgia Griffiths, earlier on the fateful day. Subsequently, Morgan reportedly sent derogatory messages to Griffiths. Later, Morgan was left alone with Jensen-Lee while the baby’s mother, Jordan Dougal, went to work. Rees asserted that Morgan’s demeanor had shifted negatively following the exchange with Griffiths, leaving him in no suitable mental state to care for a young child.

While Dougal was at work, Morgan allegedly contacted her to report that Jensen-Lee was in distress, claiming the baby was choking and had stopped breathing. Morgan then sought help from a neighbor, who performed CPR on Jensen-Lee before alerting emergency services.

Jensen-Lee was rushed to the hospital where medical professionals discovered severe brain injuries. Tragically, the decision was made to remove him from life support the following day. Morgan maintains his innocence, stating that he found the baby unresponsive with vomit in his mouth after briefly leaving him to retrieve a fresh outfit.

The prosecution argued that Morgan’s escalating temper following the dispute with Griffiths led him to shake Jensen-Lee with such force that it resulted in catastrophic injuries, ultimately leading to the baby’s untimely demise at just five months old.

The trial is ongoing.
