A man who killed his girlfriend and concealed her body in a refrigerator has been sentenced to 17 years in prison. Christopher Blevins, aged 46, admitted to strangling Laura Hughes, a 50-year-old mother of two, before disposing of her remains in a forest. The victim’s body was placed inside a fridge, wrapped in a sleeping bag, secured with straps, and covered by a rug.
Surveillance footage and a license plate reader captured Blevins transporting what appeared to be a refrigerator around the time of the murder. Laura’s body was found on December 22, 2024.
During the sentencing, Blevins, hailing from New Jersey, expressed remorse through a statement delivered by his attorney, stating he did not intend for the tragic incident to occur. He apologized for the pain he caused and expressed a wish to change the course of events.
The killer’s statement has further devastated Laura’s grieving family and her two children. Cornel Alston, the father of Hughes’ kids, emotionally addressed Blevins during the sentencing, emphasizing the lasting impact of the loss on the family.
Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay commended the investigative efforts of the police, specifically acknowledging the New Jersey State Police and Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office for their dedication in solving the case. The thorough investigation led to Blevins’ guilty plea, ensuring accountability for the crime.
