“Man’s Stalking Escalates Over Paternity Doubts”

Date:

A man’s persistent pursuit to establish the parentage of his ex-partner’s children escalated when he repeatedly contacted her and left a note for her spouse, exposing their extramarital relationship. Jamie Nielson, aged 41, admitted to stalking, driving offenses, and breaching a restraining order at Liverpool Crown Court. The court heard that Nielson had a tumultuous relationship with the victim for over a decade, even after she got married in 2013.

Despite being blocked during certain periods, Nielson bombarded the woman with messages one night in December, followed her, and approached her at her workplace the next morning. Later that day, he showed up at her residence, knocking on the door and leaving a note for her husband. His disruptive behavior continued with multiple instances of following and harassing the victim in his car.

Nielson’s actions led to his arrest and subsequent guilty plea, which also involved violating a suspended sentence from a prior conviction. In court, his defense lawyer highlighted his remorse and the complex nature of his relationship with the victim, emphasizing his doubts about the paternity of her children. However, the judge condemned Nielson’s actions, noting the significant distress caused to the victim and the persistent nature of his behavior.

Judge Louise Brandon sentenced Nielson to 65 weeks in prison, comprising terms for stalking, driving offenses, and activating the suspended sentence. Additionally, he was banned from driving for over two years and received a restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim for seven years.
