Melania Trump Urges Peace Amid ICE Shootings

Date:

Melania Trump has made a rare foray into politics in response to the recent ICE shootings and turmoil in the United States. During an appearance on Fox & Friends, she urged peaceful protests, emphasizing her stance against violence. The First Lady praised a positive discussion between President Donald Trump, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, all of whom are Democrats, in efforts to maintain peace and prevent riots.

Her public address follows the tragic incident where intensive care nurse Alex Pretti, 37, was fatally shot by ICE agents in Minneapolis. Video footage captures the agents disarming Pretti, who was carrying a holstered handgun, before the fatal shots were fired. This comes shortly after another unsettling event where Renee Good was killed by an ICE agent while in her car in the same city.

These incidents, captured on camera, have sparked widespread outrage in the US, prompting calls for the removal of ICE from Minneapolis and leading to mass demonstrations in the city. Governor Tim Walz has taken steps to protect the public by activating the US National Guard.

The Trump administration has staunchly supported the actions of the ICE agents involved in the shootings, with Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem labeling Pretti a “domestic terrorist.” Pretti, an ICU nurse at the Veterans Administration, was known for his compassion and was reportedly troubled by Trump’s immigration policies in his community.

In response to the escalating situation, President Trump announced the replacement of Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino with White House border czar Tom Homan to oversee ICE operations in Minneapolis. This decision has been interpreted as a critique of the previous leadership’s handling of the operation. Despite these changes, reports of ongoing immigration raids in Minneapolis persist.

Pressure is mounting on the Trump administration from both Democrats and prominent Republicans to conduct a thorough investigation into the fatal shootings. Chris Madel, a defense attorney and Republican candidate for state governor, withdrew from the race, citing ICE’s operations in Minnesota as a “disaster.”
