At 6:29 am on October 7, 2023, the Nova Music Festival in Israel came to a tragic halt for Lisa and Michael Marlowe. Their son, Jake Marlowe, aged 26, was fatally shot by Hamas gunmen while courageously aiding others amidst the chaotic scene.
Jake’s memory is commemorated at the Nova Exhibition in east London, showcasing the deadliest attack in music festival history. The event, which drew 3,000 attendees in southern Israel, ended with 413 fatalities, hundreds wounded, and 44 hostages.
During the exhibition opening, Lisa and Michael expressed their profound grief, highlighting the unimaginable loss of their son. Jake, a talented musician and security guard at the festival, was known for his infectious smile and protective nature towards his autistic sister.
Having relocated to Israel to escape rising antisemitism in the UK, Jake tragically met his fate during the festival assault initiated by Hamas from the Gaza Strip. Despite the harrowing circumstances, Jake’s selfless acts to save others before being fatally shot exemplified his bravery.
In efforts to honor Jake’s legacy, initiatives such as an MDA ambulance dedicated in his name and scholarships for youth have been established. Additionally, a bomb shelter and community project named after Jake aim to keep his spirit alive and spread positivity.
The Nova Exhibition will run from May 20 for six weeks in London, offering a poignant tribute to Jake and other victims. Ticket proceeds will support the healing journey of survivors and bereaved families, fostering remembrance and healing for all affected.
