The Metropolitan Police are currently examining potential connections between serial killer Steven Wright and the case of missing estate agent Suzy Lamplugh. Detectives from the cold case Homicide unit are reviewing ‘Operation Phoebus,’ the initial investigation into Suzy’s disappearance.
Recent witnesses have come forward to disclose information about Wright, known as the Suffolk Strangler, and his interactions with Suzy while both were on board the QE2 luxury liner. Wright, who is serving a life sentence for the murder of six women, admitted to strangling Victoria Hall. Authorities plan to question him regarding Suzy’s disappearance.
Records indicate that Wright was on the QE2 when it arrived in the UK on the day Suzy went missing. His ex-wife recalls him making a surprise visit to their home in Essex around the same time. The Met Police emphasized their ongoing commitment to solving Suzy’s case and stated that they are evaluating any new information received.
Suzy Lamplugh, who worked as a beautician on the QE2, vanished in 1986 after meeting a client named ‘Mr Kipper.’ Witnesses reported seeing her with a man fitting a description similar to killer John Cannan. While Cannan was initially a suspect, the focus shifted to Wright in 2006. Suzy’s disappearance remains one of the UK’s longest-running murder investigations.
Diane, Wright’s ex-wife, shared details of his violent behavior towards her, including attacks with a knife and verbal abuse. She urges authorities to reinvestigate Wright’s potential involvement in Suzy’s case and other unsolved crimes. Wright is currently serving time for multiple murders in Ipswich and has been linked to additional unsolved cases involving young women in different locations.
