Authorities in Mississippi have reported that a suspect is in custody following a tragic mass shooting that resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including a child.
A 24-year-old man has been accused of murder in connection with the series of shootings that occurred in the northeastern part of the state. The suspect, Daricka M. Moore, is facing a first-degree murder charge, which may be elevated to capital murder, as stated by the county sheriff.
The violent incidents took place in West Point, a city located in Clay County, Mississippi, across three different sites on Friday. Local officials have confirmed that an individual has been apprehended in connection with the tragic events.
Sheriff Eddie Scott of Clay County expressed on Facebook the loss of “multiple innocent lives” in West Point due to the violent acts. According to the sheriff, the tragic events resulted in the deaths of six individuals at three separate locations, all of whom were relatives of the suspect.
During a press conference on Saturday, Sheriff Scott expressed disbelief at the motive behind the killings, particularly the death of a 7-year-old child. The shootings occurred in the rural community of Cedarbluff, located west of West Point, as reported by the news agency AP.
The sheriff reassured the community that a suspect is in custody and there is no further threat to public safety, as indicated in a Facebook post.
