“Montreal Officer Cleared in Fatal Shooting Misinformation”

Date:

After a fatal shooting incident on June 22, social media misinformation suggested that a Montreal police officer was responsible for the death of civilian Michel Mizrahi. However, sources from Radio-Canada have clarified that the officer did not shoot Mizrahi, who succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, including a fatal head injury as per the autopsy report. Analysis of the fatal shot indicated a left-to-right trajectory, ruling out the officer’s involvement.

The police officer, relatively new to the force with only 15 months of service, was being pursued by the actual perpetrator. The perpetrator had earlier killed the officer’s patrol partner, Const. Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, using an SKS rifle. The officer sustained injuries to the arm and abdomen from the shooter, who was subsequently neutralized by the police.

Following the incident, various videos surfaced on social media depicting the shooting from different angles, leading to misconceptions that the officer mistakenly shot Mizrahi. The officer, who faced death threats while hospitalized in critical condition, endured a challenging situation. Montreal Police Chief Fady Dagher expressed support for the officer and denounced the unfair public judgment against her.

The shooting took place at a Hilton hotel in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood, triggering a confrontation between the police and the armed individual. Ongoing investigations involve Quebec’s police watchdog, the provincial police service, and the coroner’s office.
