Morrisons has officially announced the closure of one of its stores. Morrisons Daily located at Parkwood Green Shopping Centre in Rainham, Kent will cease operations on July 3rd.
The decision to close the store follows a strategic review by the supermarket chain, as confirmed on Tuesday. Local residents have expressed disappointment over the news, especially concerned about the impact on elderly shoppers. As of July, customers will need to visit alternative Morrisons Daily stores on Luton Road and Admiral Walk in Chatham. Additionally, larger Morrisons supermarkets in Walderslade and Strood are nearby options for shoppers affected by the closure.
A spokesperson from Morrisons informed the Sun that the closure of the Parkwood Green store is part of their ongoing efforts to enhance competitiveness and deliver better value to customers. The priority now is to support affected employees by offering them alternative employment opportunities at nearby Morrisons stores.
Shoppers in the area have shared their shock and sadness at the closure announcement, emphasizing the significant impact it will have on the local community. Last year, Morrisons closed 17 smaller Morrisons Daily stores across the UK, with a total of 103 Morrisons sites ceasing operations in 2025, including cafés, florists, and pharmacies.
Morrisons had previously explained that these closures were necessary due to operational costs being out of line with customer usage and value. CEO Rami Baitieh stated that in specific locations facing challenges, closure and reallocation of space were the most sensible options.
The announcement of the closure comes shortly after Morrisons’ decision to reduce prices on popular products as part of their ongoing commitment to providing value to customers.
