A young father, described as “much loved,” tragically lost his life in a devastating accident just three weeks after the birth of his son, leaving his family shattered. Callan Towle, a 24-year-old from Hull, was a passenger in a car that collided with a telegraph pole on Fieldsend Lane in Burton Pidsea, Holderness, on September 10, 2023. The crash also resulted in injuries to two other passengers in the back seats.
Following a trial at Hull Crown Court, the driver of the vehicle, in which Towle was a passenger, was acquitted of charges related to careless driving that led to Towle’s death and the serious injury of the rear-seat passengers. Prosecutors claimed that the driver momentarily lost control of his black VW Polo while navigating a wide left ‘S’ bend on a country road outside Burton Pidsea.
According to reports, the driver’s vehicle clipped the wing mirror of an oncoming car, causing a chain of events that led to the fatal crash. The impact caused the telegraph pole to be knocked down due to the intense force of the collision. Despite efforts to save him, Towle succumbed to his injuries at Hull Royal Infirmary. The two rear-seat passengers, a male and a female, sustained severe injuries in the accident.
In a heartfelt statement, Towle’s family expressed their profound grief over the loss, describing him as a beloved son, brother, uncle, and father to his newborn son. They highlighted his kindness, caring nature, and ability to bring joy and laughter to those around him. The family emphasized the irreplaceable void left by Towle’s untimely death, especially for his infant son, Billy, who will grow up without his father.
The family shared their struggle to come to terms with the tragedy, stating that the pain of losing Towle will always be present in their hearts. They expressed gratitude for the support received from friends and family during this difficult time and vowed to keep Towle’s memory alive forever.
