“Mother Charged with Murder After Baby Dies from Alcohol Poisoning”

Date:

A woman is being held in custody after reportedly giving her two-month-old baby a bottle filled with alcohol, leading to the infant’s tragic death. Omayrilin Colon, aged 37, is charged with murder and severe child cruelty regarding her son, who had a blood-alcohol level of .179 – double the legal limit for driving.

Authorities were called on October 14 to a report of an unresponsive baby. Emergency responders rushed the child to the hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. While there were no apparent signs of physical harm, a comprehensive autopsy, including toxicological analysis, was conducted to ascertain the cause of death.

The results indicated that the baby’s blood-alcohol content exceeded the legal limit for driving, which is .08 for adults. The boy, who remains unidentified publicly, died from alcohol poisoning, as per Law & Crime reports.

Police assert that the alcohol poisoning was not accidental. Allegedly, Colon, a resident of Georgia, USA, intentionally filled her baby’s bottle with alcohol. Investigators also confirmed that the alcohol was from the bottle and not transmitted through breast milk.

Subsequently, Colon was arrested and is currently detained in Fulton County Jail without bail. Local residents expressed shock, with one stating, “It’s devastating and enraging to harm anyone, especially children.” The motives behind Colon’s alleged actions remain unclear.

This incident follows the detention of a teenage girl who allegedly poisoned meals prepared for her parents and cousin due to a relationship ban. The 17-year-old confessed to adding a toxic substance called chumbinho to three meals in Nova Serrana, Brazil, intended for her mother, father, and cousin, as reported by the country’s Military Police.

The teenager’s actions stemmed from a disagreement with her parents. The Military Police spokesperson, Major Renato Geraldo da Silva, revealed that the poison is typically used for rodent extermination. Black granules believed to be the poison were discovered in the meals.

Upon noticing an unusual texture in the food, the cousin ceased eating and alerted his uncle, who then informed his wife about the tampered food. Medical attention was sought for the cousin, who underwent gastric lavage and remained stable. The girl, whose identity was withheld, is in police custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
