“Yellow Weather Warning Issued: Strong Winds to Impact 18 Regions”

Date:

Residents in 18 regions have been advised to get ready for disturbances and possible delays as strong winds are expected to hit various parts of the country starting at 4 am.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind covering a broad area of south-west England and Wales from 4 am to 4 pm on Tuesday. Individuals are encouraged to make necessary preparations for the impending strong winds, with potential disruptions to road, rail, air, and ferry services forewarned by the Met Office.

Vehicles with high sides may experience delays on exposed routes and bridges, and residents have been cautioned about the potential for power outages and other service interruptions. Coastal residents have been alerted that certain coastal routes, seafronts, and communities may be impacted by spray and large waves generated by winds reaching speeds as high as 65 mph.

The Met Office stated, “South-easterly winds will strengthen during Tuesday morning, especially over and towards the northwest of elevated areas where gusts of 45-50 mph are expected.”

Moreover, heavy rainfall is predicted to reach the Isles of Scilly early in the morning and progress eastward throughout the day, accompanied by inland wind gusts of 45-55 mph and potentially 60-65 mph in the most exposed hilly and coastal regions. Wind speeds are anticipated to reduce after the rain band passes through.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to prepare for potential power cuts, with recommendations to gather essential items before any outages occur. The weather warning emphasized the importance of readiness for power cuts, suggesting the collection of torches, batteries, a mobile phone power pack, and other essential supplies.

Individuals are urged to verify travel conditions by road, sea, or rail before embarking on any journeys and to stay informed about any service disruptions. Coastal inhabitants are advised to avoid large breaking waves that pose a risk of being swept off their feet.
