Scarlett Faulkner, a 29-year-old mother from Limerick, Ireland, has tragically passed away in the hospital following the removal of life-support machines, as confirmed by her grieving family. Scarlett had been in critical condition at Cork University Hospital for three weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a roadside assault on the R494 near Birdhill on March 21.
Charges have been brought against a woman and a 16-year-old girl in connection with the assault, although their identities cannot be disclosed. The woman is facing multiple charges, including violent disorder, reckless endangerment, and two counts of burglary, while the teenager is accused of assaulting Scarlett causing serious harm.
Josephine Duffy, Scarlett’s devastated sister-in-law, disclosed that the decision to terminate life support had been postponed while awaiting the final assessment. On Sunday around 4 pm, the life support was turned off, allowing five family members to remain by Scarlett’s side throughout the night.
Gardaí confirmed Scarlett’s passing on Monday evening, stating that investigations were ongoing. The authorities are investigating a serious assault that occurred on the R494 at Birdhill, Co. Tipperary, and have notified the Coroner for further procedures.
In response to the decision to switch off Scarlett’s life support, her sister Joanne expressed her profound sorrow, while a distressed niece shared her disbelief. After Scarlett’s demise, her cousin Melissa McCarthy paid tribute on social media, bidding farewell to her and acknowledging her resilience.
The family has been appreciative of the support received during this difficult time, with another family member expressing their condolences by writing, “Rest in peace Scarlett, you will be missed.”
