Denise Fergus, the grieving mother of James Bulger, who tragically lost her two-year-old son to a brutal murder in 1993, expressed her deep sorrow and anger towards the heartless vandal who desecrated her son’s grave. The vandal smashed the cherubs on James’ headstone, leaving Denise devastated as she discovered the damaged figures lying on the ground.
In an exclusive interview with the Mirror, Denise pleaded for anyone with information about the incident to come forward and issued a stern warning to the perpetrators, vowing to relentlessly pursue them. She emphasized the emotional significance of the cherubs, which had adorned James’ grave for three decades, surpassing the time she had spent with her son. The callous act left Denise in tears, describing it as a profound blow to their most sacred space.
The distressing incident occurred just before James’ upcoming birthday on March 16, disrupting the family’s customary gathering at the grave to commemorate him. Denise lamented the violation of their cherished tradition and the desecration of the place where they find solace and remembrance.
Notably, James Bulger was tragically murdered by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson, both aged 10 at the time, in Liverpool. Although the perpetrators were convicted and later released, Venables has faced subsequent legal issues, including imprisonment for possessing child abuse images. The grave has been targeted multiple times previously, causing immense distress to Denise and her family.
Denise also mentioned a missing teddy bear named Bill the Bear from the grave, urging the community to report any sightings. Merseyside Police has launched an appeal for information regarding the vandalism, urging witnesses to come forward. Inspector Chris Taylor assured that the authorities are diligently investigating the incident to hold the culprits accountable.
Individuals with relevant information are encouraged to contact Merseyside Police through various channels, including providing anonymous tips via Crimestoppers. Additionally, the James Bulger Memorial Trust can be reached for assistance or information related to the case.
