Mother Seeks Justice for Daughter Shot by Father

Date:

The mother of a young woman who was tragically shot by her father in the United States has filed a formal complaint with the local police department. Lucy Harrison, a resident of Warrington, Cheshire, was only 23 years old when she was fatally shot by her father, Kris, on January 10 last year while visiting his home in Prosper, Texas with her boyfriend Sam Littler.

Despite the circumstances surrounding the shooting, a grand jury determined that there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against Kris. The gun used in the incident was legally owned by Harrison in Texas, where no license or training was required for home defense purposes. Following an inquiry at Cheshire Coroner’s Court, it was determined that Lucy’s death was unlawful.

During the investigation, Mr. Harrison acknowledged to the police that he had been drinking on the day of the incident, although no alcohol tests were conducted by the authorities. The case was closed by US police in June 2025. However, a year later, Lucy’s mother Jane Coates from Warrington submitted a formal complaint to the Prosper Police Department, expressing concerns that the investigation was not thorough and lacked proper scrutiny.

Jane emphasized that her complaint was not about legal technicalities but about the quality of the police investigation, which she believes did not meet the professional standards required for Lucy’s case. She pointed out inconsistencies in the investigation and questioned the speed at which authorities concluded that the shooting was accidental.

Moreover, Jane raised concerns about the handling of Kris’ alcohol consumption on the day of the incident, as he was the only witness to Lucy’s death. She felt that his statements were given undue weight and that the investigation should have delved deeper into this aspect. Jane’s formal complaint has been submitted to the Prosper Police Department, and she is awaiting a response.

In memory of her daughter, Jane has launched a campaign called For Luce to provide support to families navigating foreign justice systems. The campaign aims to promote positive change and support for those in similar situations. She expressed deep sorrow over her daughter’s untimely death, stressing that Lucy had so much more to offer in life.

Efforts to obtain a comment from the Prosper Police Department on the matter are underway.
