“Mother sentenced for Oasis ticket scam”

Date:

A mother in Betley, Newcastle-under-Lyme, has been sentenced for defrauding fans with counterfeit Oasis reunion tour tickets. Rosie Slater deceived individuals into purchasing VIP executive box seats for the Wembley concerts, earning £4,000 through her fraudulent scheme in May 2025. She sold the tickets for prices ranging from £130 to £160 each via chat groups, pleading guilty to 11 counts of fraud by false representation at North Staffordshire Justice Centre last December.

Following her appearance at court, Slater was granted bail before her sentencing hearing at the same location. She received a 12-month community order that mandates completion of a mental health treatment program and 30 rehabilitation days. In addition, she was fined £40, imposed a £114 victim surcharge, and ordered to pay £85 in costs. Slater must also reimburse the victims a total of £776.98, making her total expenses amount to £1015.98, with some victims already receiving restitution.

During the court proceedings, magistrates highlighted the impact of Slater’s actions on the affected individuals, acknowledging her claim that the situation escalated beyond her control. Her lawyer, Simon Leach, stated that Slater initially had good intentions but struggled to manage the situation, using the money to settle debts and common household bills like council tax.

Slater promoted the fake tickets for Oasis’ August shows via WhatsApp in a bid to gain popularity, but her deceit was uncovered when vigilant customers reported her to the authorities, resulting in multiple charges of fraud. Detective Constable David Stubbs from Staffordshire Police’s investigation bureau, who handled the case, emphasized the complexity of the scam, the financial losses incurred by numerous victims, and Slater’s persistence in deceiving more individuals for personal gain. He commended the public for their cooperation in providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
