Two mothers, Esther Ghey and Jane Coates, have formed a strong bond after both tragically lost their daughters in separate incidents. Esther’s 16-year-old daughter, Brianna, was murdered by two teenagers, while Jane’s only child, Lucy Harrison, was shot dead by her father. Through their shared grief, Esther and Jane found solace in each other and have united to advocate for safer environments for young people.
Expressing the depth of their friendship, Esther revealed, “Brianna and Lucy have brought us together in a way that feels destined. Our bond allows us to share experiences and emotions openly on a profound level that others may not comprehend. I consider myself fortunate to have Jane in my life.”
Jane echoed Esther’s sentiment, stating, “Esther has been an invaluable source of support for me. Our unspoken understanding of each other’s pain is comforting. It’s a journey we never imagined, but having someone who can relate and guide you through it is truly remarkable.”
Despite their daughters never meeting, Esther believes Brianna and Lucy have connected in spirit. Esther shared, “I often work in Brianna’s room, feeling her presence with me. There was a moment where I sensed Brianna and Lucy together, as if they were bridging our friendship.”
Since Brianna’s tragic death, Esther has been dedicated to enhancing safety for young people by promoting mindfulness in schools through The Brianna Ghey Legacy Project. Jane, as a deputy head of a primary school, has joined Esther in this cause, with numerous teachers undergoing mindfulness training and students benefiting from wellbeing sessions.
Reflecting on their shared mission, Jane emphasized the importance of compassion and integrity in advocating for change. She expressed gratitude for Esther’s friendship, which reignited her passion amidst grief. Meanwhile, Lucy’s boyfriend, Sam Littler, raised concerns over the circumstances of her death, questioning the lack of alcohol testing despite the presence of alcohol and Kris being the only person with Lucy at the time of the incident.
As they continue their advocacy work and seek justice for their daughters, Esther and Jane’s bond remains unbreakable, fueled by their shared experiences and commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
