“Multiple Injured as Car Plows Into Crowds in Italy”

Date:

Several individuals sustained injuries following a car driving into crowds in a historic city in the northern region of Italy.

Local reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle crashed into a shop window in Modena and allegedly stabbed a bystander who intervened to stop the driver.

Emergency response teams arrived at the location at approximately 4:30 pm local time today to attend to seven individuals, four of whom are in critical condition, with one woman reportedly suffering the loss of her legs due to the incident.

Reportedly, at least four individuals are currently in critical condition following the accident on Via Emilia Centro.

The suspect, a person in their thirties, was apprehended shortly after attempting to escape between Rua Pioppa and Corso Adriano. The individual is currently in custody for questioning while authorities seek to determine the motive behind the incident.

Modena’s mayor, Gian Carlo Mezzetti, stated that the circumstances surrounding the crash are not immediately clear. Referring to the suspect, he mentioned, “It is uncertain whether the individual was under the influence of substances or if the actions were intentional.

“Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but seven individuals sustained injuries, including two severely. A female victim is anticipated to undergo leg amputation as a result of being crushed against the shop window.

“I do not possess specific information regarding the identity of the driver, although witnesses have indicated that the person may be of North African descent.”
