A man who proclaimed himself to be a “divine being” resorted to extreme measures by gouging out his own eyes and part of his tongue in a failed bid to land in a medical facility after being convicted of murder.
Robert Brandon Keller, 32, was found guilty of the murder of Bruce William Dupree, 43, during a car theft incident in October 2024. Keller made bold statements in court declaring his divine status.
Claiming to be a special entity, Keller expressed a desire for trust and truth but felt the courtroom was not the appropriate setting. Following his arrest, he mutilated himself, with reports suggesting it was a ploy to manipulate the system and secure medical placement. He received a life sentence on July 2.
Under the influence of drugs, Keller viciously attacked Dupree, slashing his throat and abandoning him near Interstate 16 in Bulloch County, Georgia. A passing driver discovered Dupree in distress and alerted the authorities.
Despite efforts to save him, Dupree succumbed to his injuries. Keller was apprehended at a local inn, where Judge Matthew Hube condemned his actions, describing him as a destructive force who preyed on those offering help.
Keller was ultimately handed two consecutive life sentences plus an additional 25 years. Bulloch County District Attorney Jillian Gibson commended the outcome as a means of safeguarding the community from a dangerous individual.
During the court proceedings, Dupree’s niece, Mandy Moore, expressed the irreparable loss caused by Keller’s actions, emphasizing the importance of justice in preventing future tragedies.
