A 33-year-old music teacher, Naomi Tekea Craig, has admitted to sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male student. The confession took place at Mandurah Magistrates Court in New South Wales, Australia. Craig, who worked at Frederick Irwin Anglican School in Perth, is accused of engaging in ongoing sexual misconduct with the student for over a year.
During her arrest while on maternity leave, authorities alleged that the baby she bore was fathered by the same student she had reportedly groomed. Subsequently, Craig faced charges including two counts of sexual penetration of a child aged between 13 and 16, as well as possession of child exploitation material.
Court documents indicate that the offenses occurred between 2024 and 2025. The school’s principal, Tracey Gray, notified parents of the incident, assuring them that the safety of all students remains a top priority. The illicit behavior began in August 2024 and persisted until Craig’s arrest in December of the same year.
The case has been expedited, with a sentencing date set for March 27 in the district court. Craig, who married in 2019 and had a child in 2022, was released on bail under strict conditions, including no contact with the victim or unsupervised interaction with minors except her own baby.
Police Commissioner Col Blanch confirmed that a DNA test was conducted to ascertain the paternity of Craig’s child. The Western Australian Police emphasized that the inappropriate conduct between Craig and the student was ongoing while she was employed as a teacher in the Mandurah District.
Despite the distressing nature of the allegations, authorities are actively investigating the case and providing support to the victims.
