NASA has scheduled a press briefing to announce its upcoming plans for establishing a permanent lunar base. Termed as the ‘Moon Base’ initiative, NASA aims to facilitate continuous human presence and promote enhanced scientific and commercial endeavors at the lunar South Pole.
This briefing follows NASA’s recent successful Artemis II moon mission, where a team of four astronauts completed a 10-day crewed lunar flyby, marking the first human journey to the Moon since 1972.
The live broadcast of NASA’s briefing on its “Moon Base” strategy can be viewed on NASA+ and the agency’s YouTube channel. The agency will present updates on the moon base plans, with participation from key individuals.
In a released statement, NASA highlighted its commitment to advancing the development of the Moon Base, an initiative focused on long-term lunar exploration and infrastructure to support sustained human presence, scientific exploration, and commercial activities at the lunar South Pole.
NASA is set to hold a news conference today at 2pm EDT (7pm BST) to discuss the progress towards establishing a permanent presence on the moon. The event will be hosted at NASA’s headquarters in Washington.
