One individual has been taken into custody following the discovery of a Nazi flag and a suspicious canister inside a vehicle in the United States.
Authorities are looking into the canister, which was found near the Islamic Center of San Diego in Clairemont on June 18. A bomb squad promptly responded to the scene.
San Diego police officers, who were already present at the Islamic Center, spotted the vehicle at approximately 11:40 am.
Upon stopping the vehicle and detaining the driver, law enforcement officers encountered the Nazi flag and the questionable canister.
Subsequently, the Metro Arson Strike Team was called in to assess the suspicious item.
The Joint Terrorism Task Force was promptly notified and is collaborating with the San Diego Police Department.
Police have confirmed that there is no immediate danger to the center, and the investigation is ongoing.
Residents in the vicinity were advised to stay indoors, while nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution.
In an update on the situation, the San Diego Police Department stated, “The San Diego Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the suspicious device found at the intersection of Derrick Drive and Genesee Avenue.”
“No explosive materials were discovered, and there are currently no active threats to the Islamic Center of San Diego or the neighboring community,” the statement continued.
Certain areas surrounding the incident site remain closed as detectives continue to gather evidence, with expected disruptions for a few more hours. Authorities urge the public to avoid the area and use alternative routes. Cooperation and patience from the community during the investigation are appreciated.
