Nestle to Cut 450+ Jobs in UK Amid Global Restructuring

Date:

Nestle, the company behind popular brands like Kit Kat and Aero, is planning to cut over 450 jobs in the UK, according to a union report. The GMB union has expressed concerns that the impact of these job losses will be widespread, affecting various regions across the country.

The majority of the job cuts are expected to occur in York and Gatwick, with the potential for repercussions in Nestle factories throughout the UK. This decision follows Nestle’s announcement last year of a global workforce reduction of 16,000 jobs, which includes iconic brands such as Kit Kat, Milky Bar, Aero, and Felix cat food.

Charlotte Brumpton-Childs, the GMB National Secretary, stated that these job cuts will have a significant negative effect on communities, especially considering the uncertainty and previous job losses Nestle employees have endured. The union plans to collaborate closely with affected members and the company to mitigate the impact of these cuts as much as possible.

A spokesperson from Nestle emphasized that the ongoing global restructuring process, announced in 2025, involves reducing the workforce by 16,000 roles worldwide. The company reassured that any changes will be handled responsibly and in consultation with employees, with updates provided directly to those affected.

Nestle’s decision to implement these workforce reductions is part of its strategy to adapt quickly and secure its position as an industry leader. The restructuring is anticipated to mainly impact around 12,000 white-collar professionals across various business functions, with expected annual savings of approximately one billion Swiss francs (£940 million) by the end of 2027.
