“Netflix in Talks for The Crown Specials on Royal Controversies”

Date:

Netflix is said to be in advanced discussions with the creator of The Crown to bring back the series for a set of special episodes centered on significant royal controversies, such as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s connection to Jeffrey Epstein and his recent legal issues.

The renowned show delved into key Royal Family moments, like Queen Elizabeth’s early reign and Charles and Camilla’s 2005 wedding, concluding in 2023 after six successful seasons. The idea of reviving the series emerged shortly after Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest for alleged misconduct.

A source revealed to the Daily Mail that talks have been ongoing with Left Bank Pictures, the series’ rights holder, to develop standalone specials focusing on royal scandals. These discussions include the possibility of a limited series under The Crown brand revolving around Andrew’s tumultuous story, deemed as captivating as the show’s original content.

Notably, Peter Morgan, The Crown’s creator, previously expressed intentions to keep a distance from current events. While Netflix contemplates the new episodes, competing streaming platforms like Disney+ and Amazon Prime are also considering dramatized productions detailing Andrew’s downfall.

Disney Studios has reported a surge in interest from screenwriters eager to tackle this narrative, with Hollywood studios racing to be the first to release an Andrew-themed film. Moreover, screenwriter Jeremy Brock confirmed plans for Netflix and Amazon to explore a drama tracing Andrew’s ongoing troubles, citing the compelling nature of the story.

The concept of these dramatizations arises following Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest on his 66th birthday for alleged misconduct. As the investigation unfolds, he has been confined to Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate, subjected to strict rules including a prohibition on horse riding, a former favorite pastime.

Allegedly, King Charles has restricted his brother’s movements and visitors, imposing stringent guidelines amid the ongoing police inquiry. The situation continues to develop as streaming services and Hollywood insiders eye the captivating narrative surrounding Andrew’s controversial actions.
