“New PM Burnham Cuts VAT on Electricity Bills”

Date:

Andy Burnham, in his capacity as the new Prime Minister, successfully led his inaugural Cabinet meeting and directed his ministers to explore various strategies to assist families grappling with financial challenges. One of his initial actions as Prime Minister was to eliminate VAT on electricity bills, reducing the average bill by £45.

In his address to the Cabinet, Burnham emphasized the importance of addressing the cost-of-living pressures faced by the public. He urged his colleagues to prioritize initiatives that would alleviate financial burdens, stating the government’s commitment to reducing the cost of living through all possible means.

Delivering on his pledge to provide “breathing space” for struggling households, Burnham announced the removal of VAT from domestic electricity bills starting October 1. He underscored the need for governmental policies that directly benefit individuals and expressed his determination to bring positive change to people’s lives.

Since assuming office, PM Burnham has appointed new ministers, including Dan Jarvis as security minister and James Murray as Treasury minister. Notably, Burnham received early support from Mr. Trump following a positive conversation shortly after taking office, with both leaders expressing optimism about future collaborations.

Mr. Trump commended Burnham for his leadership and assured of the US’s willingness to support the UK under his administration. The warm exchange between the two leaders signals a cordial start to their diplomatic relationship.
