An NHS physician, Dr. Rahmeh Aladwan, aged 31, has been accused of soliciting support for Hamas, as stated by the Metropolitan Police. The doctor was apprehended by Metropolitan officers at her residence in Pilning, South Gloucestershire, on Thursday morning for allegedly violating bail conditions imposed after previous detentions.
Following her arrest, she was transported to a central London police station where she was formally charged with four counts of soliciting support for Hamas, a banned organization under the Terrorism Act 2000. The charges stem from activities between July 23 and December 31 the previous year, specifically related to online comments or materials.
The charges were filed after an inquiry by the Met’s Public Order Crime Team, as conveyed in a statement by the Metropolitan Police last evening. In addition to the Hamas-related charges, she also faces allegations of disseminating written materials and using language that was threatening, abusive, or insulting with the intention of inciting racial hatred, violating the Public Order Act 1986.
Dr. Aladwan, a British Palestinian, has been detained in custody and is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday, March 27, according to Scotland Yard.
