Despite her deteriorating condition resembling pre-eclampsia, maternity staff failed to act promptly, resulting in the need for three blood transfusions for Lucy and the resuscitation of her baby daughter.
The investigation highlighted systemic issues such as delayed surgeries due to limited operating theatre capacity on weekends, leading to critical health risks for patients. Lucy expressed frustration at the disjointed care she received and emphasized the importance of being heard by medical professionals.
Baroness Amos’s team engaged with hundreds of affected individuals, identifying workforce shortages and NHS capacity constraints as recurring challenges contributing to substandard care. The interim findings underscore the urgent need for improvements in maternity and neonatal services nationwide.
