A defector from North Korea, who formerly served as a bodyguard for Kim Jong-un, has issued a cautionary message to the dictator to change his ways after witnessing the US and Israel’s actions in eliminating Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. North Korea, notorious for its severe authoritarian regime, strict control over freedom of expression, and widespread human rights abuses, has long been under the iron-fisted rule of the Kim dynasty since its establishment by Kim Il-sung in the 1940s and subsequent leadership by his son, Kim Jong-il.
Escaping the oppressive regime’s control and pervasive cult of personality, some North Koreans have sought refuge in democratic South Korea. Kang Jin and Kang Yoon-chu, former members of Kim Jong-un’s elite bodyguard unit with 13 years of service, are now defectors running a popular YouTube channel.
In a video collaboration with DimpleVideo, known as the “NK Guys,” the two defectors reacted to a simulation of the US and Israeli strikes that resulted in the death of Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. During their discussion in Korean, Yoon-chu initiated the conversation by discussing the military operation in Iran with Jin.
The footage depicted animated fighter jets departing from Israel armed with high-precision missiles, targeting a compound in Tehran where Iranian leadership, including Khamenei, was gathered. The video showed a missile hitting the compound, followed by actual conflict footage, including missile launches and drone activity.
Reflecting on the modern warfare capabilities, Yoon-chu and Jin marveled at the real-time visibility provided by satellite imagery and intelligence operations. They speculated on the implications for Kim Jong-un, expressing concerns about the potential vulnerability of dictatorial regimes like North Korea in the face of advanced military technologies.
Jin emphasized the need for Kim Jong-un to adopt a more cautious approach, acknowledging the overwhelming dominance of the US in global military capabilities. He warned that Kim’s provocative actions could lead to dire consequences, urging him to consider the risks of continued defiance in a world where no one is beyond reach.
