“Operation Red Card a Success: 300 Firearms Seized for England Fans in Texas”

Date:

A major police operation known as Operation Red Card, designed to safeguard England fans during the upcoming World Cup in Texas, has been hailed as a remarkable success. Authorities have confiscated nearly 300 illegal firearms and substantial quantities of narcotics from various locations near the venue where England will play its first match next month.

Police chiefs have reported over 1,300 arrests as part of the extensive operation leading up to the England versus Croatia game in Dallas on June 18. US Attorney Ryan Raybould of the Northern District of Texas described the apprehended individuals as some of the most dangerous offenders. He emphasized the operation’s focus on securing the area for the FIFA World Cup and eliminating criminal activity from the streets, affirming its exceptional effectiveness in the lead-up to the event.

With an influx of around 15,000 Three Lions supporters expected in Dallas to cheer on the team, law enforcement authorities are prepared to maintain safety and security. A significant amount of illicit substances, including 800 kilos of methamphetamine, 50 kilos of cocaine, and 20 kilos of fentanyl, along with 280 firearms and £4 million in cash, have been seized. The coordinated efforts between local and federal agencies have received praise from Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux.

Comeaux commended the collaborative efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of everyone in Dallas, highlighting the successful partnerships with federal agencies. He mentioned that fugitive operations conducted in conjunction with the US Marshals Task Force have resulted in over 1,300 arrests related to felony warrants.

Addressing concerns about maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for visitors while enforcing heightened security measures, Raybould emphasized the enforcement of laws by dedicated officers who also engage in community outreach activities. Jake Holmes, US attorney for the Eastern District of Texas, discussed the intersection of immigration enforcement and drug trafficking investigations, emphasizing the interconnected nature of these issues.

Joseph Rothrock, FBI special agent in charge, drew parallels between security planning for previous Super Bowls and the upcoming World Cup, highlighting the unprecedented scale of the tournament hosted across three countries. Reflecting on the significance of Dallas hosting more matches than any other US city, Rothrock emphasized the unique nature of this World Cup compared to previous editions.
