Days before the Oscars, a dispute has reportedly arisen regarding a tribute planned for the late Rob Reiner.
Rob Reiner, known for directing “When Harry Met Sally…,” passed away at 78 alongside his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their Los Angeles home on December 15 last year. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed that both Rob and Michele Reiner succumbed to “multiple sharp force injuries” in what was ruled as a homicide.
The news of their tragic deaths prompted tributes from various sectors, including politics, film, comedy, and television, highlighting Reiner’s significant influence spanning more than five decades.
As a prominent figure in the film industry, a tribute is being organized for Reiner at the upcoming Oscars scheduled for March 15. However, a recent report from the Daily Mail has unveiled a disagreement over the participants in Reiner’s tribute.
According to an insider speaking to the MailOnline, there is a debate over including Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, as well as Jerry O’Connell and Wil Wheaton from “Stand By Me,” in the tribute. Notably, Corey Feldman, who was omitted, expressed disappointment at not being invited despite his close relationship with Rob Reiner.
Feldman, O’Connell, and Wheaton, who are currently touring together to mark the 40th anniversary of “Stand By Me,” found the exclusion particularly disheartening.
The source mentioned, “‘Jerry and Wil feel bad for their buddy and have tried to reason with the Academy that Stand By Me was an ensemble and Corey should be a part of the tribute, but that currently doesn’t seem to be the case for organizers and they are looking to snub him out.”
