The parents of a three-year-old boy who tragically passed away in a car accident are facing charges of manslaughter. The incident involving Caden Case occurred in Queensland, Australia, leading to his untimely death at a police station on October 25, 2025.
Footage from police body cameras, released on February 27, captured the moment when Aneshia Daisy Case, aged 23, was handcuffed by a detective from the police’s Child Trauma Unit. The arrest follows a thorough four-month investigation into the unusual circumstances surrounding the boy’s death, as reported by Australian media.
Caden was swiftly brought to Beenleigh Police Station by a member of the public, accompanied by his mother, after the early morning collision at approximately 5 am. Despite efforts, the child succumbed to critical head injuries and was pronounced dead at the station following the car crash that led their white Mazda into bushland.
Samuel Ian Paterson, 24, the boy’s father, was located by authorities at a Beenleigh residence about an hour and a half later with a one-year-old boy. The younger child was taken to the hospital for evaluation and was later cleared of any injuries.
Aneshia Daisy Case, now 23 years old, faces charges including manslaughter related to domestic violence against a child, drug trafficking, driving without a valid license, and possession of items used in criminal activities. Mr. Paterson has also been charged with manslaughter, domestic violence against a child, and drug trafficking.
The Gold Coast Child Protection and Investigation Unit launched Operation Xray Grid in collaboration with specialized police units, conducting an extensive four-month probe to unravel the events surrounding the fatal crash. Detective Acting Inspector Kent Ellis described the investigation as “highly intricate,” involving forensic reconstruction of the accident, scrutiny of physical evidence, and analysis of CCTV footage.
Ellis further explained, “Determining the driver at the time of the collision necessitated a substantial amount of investigative effort,” highlighting the comprehensive forensic and mechanical analysis, along with the scrutiny of various intelligence sources.
