The Met Office has identified eight regions in England where additional rainfall is expected, potentially leading to flooding and disturbances. A yellow weather warning for Thursday covers areas in South West England such as Cornwall, Devon, and Dorset, with another warning in place for Friday to early Saturday in the same areas.
Following the impact of Storm Chandra earlier this week in Devon and Cornwall, which resulted in closures of schools, businesses, and rescues from flood-related incidents, residents in the warned regions are advised to assess their flood risk and prepare emergency kits.
In Devon, the aftermath of Storm Chandra led to the closure of 47 schools and road shutdowns, including a section of the A30. Dorset Council cautioned against driving through floodwater due to heavy rainfall causing rises in river levels and water spreading over lands and roads.
Storm Chandra is the latest storm named under a collaborative storm naming system in western Europe. The Met Office forecasts a wet and cloudy Thursday with rain and possible hill snow in the north, followed by a rather cloudy and breezy Friday with rain moving northwards and snow in northern hills.
Looking ahead to the weekend and early next week, the weather is expected to remain unsettled across the UK, with showers, rain, and brisk winds affecting most areas, along with the potential for snow in northern hilly regions.
