PlayStation has officially announced that numerous purchased films on users’ accounts will be deleted within a few months. In a communication labeled as a “legal notice,” PlayStation stated that due to licensing regulations, these movies will be removed from users’ accounts, rendering them inaccessible.
Users of PlayStation who own the latest versions of the console – the PS4 and PS5 – have the ability to stream, rent, or purchase movies. Previously, this was done directly through the PlayStation store, but now it is facilitated via the Sony Pictures Core app. As per the notification sent to affected users, a total of 551 movies will be removed starting from September 1.
Among the content being removed are popular films like Terminator 2, Total Recall, and Shaun The Sheep Movie – Farmageddon. Additionally, titles such as Alan Partridge, The Evil Dead, Brighton Rock, The Deer Hunter, and Paddington will no longer be accessible to users, even if they have acquired them.
The message from PlayStation states, “From September 1, 2026, due to our content licensing agreements, you will no longer be able to access your previously purchased content from Studio Canal, and it will be removed from your video library.” It concludes with a simple “Thank you, PlayStation Store” and a list of the 550 affected films.
