A man who works as a plumber was taken into custody in the presence of his young son following the discovery of his ex-partner’s decomposed body concealed beneath her bed.
Concern arose when a friend of Daniela Florea, aged 36, had not been in contact with her for approximately ten days. The friend decided to check Daniela’s apartment in Turin, Italy, where the distressing find was made.
Upon entering the residence, the friend was immediately overwhelmed by a foul odor and promptly contacted the authorities on July 20. Daniela’s remains were uncovered in a storage compartment beneath her bed, wrapped in a white bedsheet and in an advanced state of decay.
Daniela’s former partner, Daniel Trandafir, aged 45, was located at his residence in Turin along with their six-year-old son and the family pet after the discovery. The child has been placed under the care of a community facility.
Trandafir denied any involvement in Daniela’s demise but investigators noted inconsistencies in his statements regarding his last interaction with her. He has since been arrested on charges of femicide, concealing a corpse, and aggravated domestic abuse.
The post-mortem examination revealed that Florea sustained severe head injuries and signs of mechanical asphyxiation, indicating death around ten days prior to the discovery. Authorities suspect Trandafir, who was allegedly the last person to see Daniela alive, killed her during the night of 9–10 July and hid her body under the bed due to his refusal to accept the relationship’s end.
Daniela, a Romanian national, had moved into the apartment with her son following the end of her relationship with Trandafir, also Romanian, a few months earlier. Investigators discovered that he still had access to the building through a set of keys he possessed.
The investigation into the case is still ongoing.
